Nana is a female Squirrel Monkey of approximately 10 years old. This type of monkey is native to the Southern American region, hailing from countries like Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Guyana, Peru, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.

Thanks to the effort of PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection), she arrived at Primate Pets in 2017 through a voluntary donation from a hotel; Nana used to work as a model in the tourist photography business.

Most tourists and people who use animals for photography are not aware of the damage they cause to this animals. One of the main damages caused is stress due to the activities they do, the lack of their natural habitat and a poor diet. When Nana arrived at the Sanctuary, our Animal Welfare Team began a specialized enrichment program to work on her stress levels and to get her nutrients and diet in healthy parameters.

Nana currently lives a quiet life with another Squirrel Monkey in the Primate Pets. She now has a new chance in life, were she will be given excellent care, adequate nutrition and medical care for a monkey of her species.
