CHARLY-BLACK-FACED CAPUCHIN Baby

Charly is a Tufted Capuchin Monkey of approximately 7 years old. He came to the Primate Pets 4 years ago as a voluntary donation from a family that had him as a pet. The family decided to give up Charly because they could no longer take care of him, as his behaviors as a wild animal were getting more and more complicated each day.

A lot of people buy wildlife animals when they are young and small, but they do not know the special care and responsibility that is necessary once the animal begins to grow, and it reaches its’ adolescence.

When Charly arrived at the Akumal Monkey Sanctuary an evaluation was carried out to know the state he was on. Our veterinary team was able to determine that he arrived in a healthy condition, he only exhibited inappropriate behavior for capuchin monkeys.

The type of behavior that Charly presented was a consequence from the interaction he had with humans; when monkeys spend a lot of time with humans, they tend to believe they are also human, and stop acting like a wild animal. In this type of cases, it is necessary to give them a special rehabilitation so that the monkeys can learn to socialize with other monkeys of their same species.

Charly underwent the adaptation process with other monkeys, and he was able to advance quickly with it. He and was integrated into a troop of black-faced capuchin monkeys.

Charly is a curious, and playful monkey who currently lives very happily in the Primate Pets.
